Interest Rates

 The Bank of England Base Rate should fall by 25 basis points later this month, despite being within the current period of election campaigning.  It is time for interest rates to start falling to boost household spending and give relief to hard-pressed home-owners. UPDATE AS AT 13 JUNE: With the economy flatlining, the case for an interest rate reduction next Thursday has become even stronger.  The Bank of England should not worry about politics when altering the rate.

Stand By And Watch!

  Istanbul — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said his country had imposed a trade ban on Israel because it could no longer "stand by and watch" the violence in Gaza. Turkey announced Thursday that it had suspended all imports and exports to Israel over its military actions in the war against Gaza's Hamas rulers

Re-unification of Cyprus

I have just come back from a holiday to Cyprus for a week in Pafos, where I also visited Famagusta in the illegally occupied north of the island. The EU should press forward for the island's re-unification, particularly now that the 50th anniversary of the Turkish invasion is coming up on 20 July this year.  

General Election UK 2024

 The UK General Election should now be called in June 2024.  The local elections are showing it is high time for change. In fact, the General Election should have been held on 2 May 2024.  Shame on Rishi Sunak for the delay!
