Interest Rates

At the next Fed meeting on 30 July, interest rates should remain unchanged.  The same goes for the Bank of England's MPC meeting the following week. In both countries, the inflation outlook is too uncertain.

Beyond Blue Sky 2025 - Addendum

Update as of 14 July, 2025, also known as Bastille Day.  Jesus Christ will Return, the Messiah, will return on September 12, 2026 (The Feast of Trumpets) to be followed by 3 and 1/2 years of The Great Tribulation. Failing that, He will return on September 21, 2028 (also the Feast of Trumpets) and, coincidentally, the Day of Peace at the United Nations. Between now and then, businesses and individuals had better pray and do good works to show themselves worthy by not harming the planet and each other.  The Great Tribulation, lasting 3 and 1/2 years will REALLY focus minds. Judgment Day is coming!

Interview

I recall my interview at Cambridge University.  It was a cold, icy, February morning the day after I had arrived back in the UK from an Arthur Andersen Tax Training Course in Holland. I had set off early from my digs anticipating bad weather, but not factored in the fact that I would have to walk at a snail's pace.  By the time I reached college, I was 10 minutes late and feared the interview would not go ahead due to being late. Outside Corpus Christi College, on the other side of Trumpington Street, however, an older lady fell backwards and hit her head directly on the icy path with a loud thump.  I will always remember her and hope that she was OK.  Her husband attended to her, and I went to the Catz interview.

Electric Cars

Initial thoughts on the UK's Modern Industrial Policy (published last month): it is dangerous for the Government to pick technological 'winners' with track records of successfully doing so being poor at least. The Policy, for example, further supports the development of electric and self-driving cars.  This is likely to be an expensive distraction vis-à-vis gas/petrol and hybrid options.

Schools

All schools should be privatised to save money for the public finances, with scholarships available for the brightest, otherwise not able to attend.

Thunder!

Today, there is THUNDER forecast for my home town.  GOD IS ANGRY! This morning, I have veered professionally towards talking about Climate Change yet again - a language which business professionals here in the UK only seem to understand. The view across The Pond is more nuanced, however and there, many rightly acknowledge that GOD CONTROLS THE WEATHER! TQP = Total Quality is Poor!  MORE RESEARCH is NEEDED!

Eureka!

Post-Cambridge, I did an ACA in Chartered Accountancy and later an MBA at INSEAD France & Wharton, USA. A CAM(bridge) BA! I should have just relied on my Cambridge education from the start and saved the extra expense! After all, even though I was awarded a 2:1 degree in 1996, upon review in 1999 when I was awarded an MA (Cantab.), this was upgraded by my College to a First Class Honours. I am not criticising the ACA and MBA entirely - they bought me contacts and globalised my career in a way Cambridge is only now beginning to offer.
